Welcome

The High Steppers Club (HSC) since 1993 has provided and opportunity for social interaction in a safe environment for elderly persons who do not wish to, or are no longer able to function in social clubs where they are expected to participate in the operation of the club. At the HSC a large group of dedicated volunteers supervised by the Club Manager carry out all of the tasks necessary for the operation of the club.

An equally important benefit that derives from the club’s operation is the free time provided to the caregivers of a number of the club members. A significant number of the club attendees are of limited capability to the extent that spouses, children or others are required to provide round the clock supervision and care. Having the opportunity to leave their charges with the HSC for a few hours each week allows them to attend to other necessary tasks or to simply have a break from the constant responsibility.

The HSC is open Wednesday and Thursday each week between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The club operates out of rented premises in a church in Windsor Park, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The Prince of Peace Senior Social Centre Volunteers (POPSSCV) operates the HSC and is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board has hired a manager (the only paid position) to supervise the daily operation of the club.

All who are associated with the HSC – be they the club manager, the many volunteers and most particularly the elderly club members and their caregivers and families feel that this unique organization provides a valuable service to the community.
